About.
Amazanga is a nature sanctuary in the rainforest of Ecuador in the province of Napo. It is a place of connection with and learning from nature. We dedicate our hearts and efforts to the conservation of traditional knowledge, local native comunities (kichwa) and the rainforest itself. The main purpose of Amazanga (which in kichwa mythology is the jaguar-spirit that protects the jungle) is to restore balance and harmony of human beings within ourselves and with everything surrounding us. We built this place to preserve, recover, and practice the ancient wisdom of the Amazon which goes hand in hand with supporting native peoples and protecting the ecosystem.
Protecting the rainforest also means preserving the splendour of life for present and future generations. The Amazon jungle keeps ecological balance on our planet and our commitment now is more important than ever. Deforestation not only has devastating effects on the global ecosystem, but also on traditional knowledge from the Amazon. With the disappearance of numerous species, knowledge about medicinal plants and their application is lost forever, and the cultural identity of the local people loses stability, causing issues of health and social problems. With our project ARBOLES DE LA VIDA we are working in balancing this cycle and creating alternatives at our front door.
