About.
Founded in 1999 as the vision of renowned photojournalist Everett Brown and his wife, natural food specialist, chef, and macrobiotics pioneer, Deco Nakajima, Brown’s Field is an eco retreat with an emphasis on food, farming, community, and an agri-centric lifestyle that embodies the roots and traditional wisdom of Japan and its people.
Serving rice and vegetables harvested entirely naturally on-site, as well as meals crafted from home-made miso, soy sauce, and a brilliant array of fermented foods that reach back into the wisdom of generations of Japan’s food producers, Brown’s Field is home to the all-organic Rice Terrace Café, the beautifully renovated 200 year old country inn, Jiji no Ie, which includes Deco’s adjacent cooking studio, as well an array of lodging options. Brown’s Field hosts guests of all ages from across the globe for unique, community-centric food, farming, and cultural workshops and programs throughout the year.

Stylishly Rustic Farmhouse Retreat
Regularly used for cooking, natural living and countryside lifestyle workshops in collaboration with chefs and food producers, the home hearkens back to a more rustic style, agriculture-centric living once standard for the 'satoyama' villages of Japan, while at the same time, carefully updated with a degree of modern amenities - particularly culinary-related, as well as the bathing facilities - to provide for a one-of-a-kind countryside experience that encapsulates the essence of Japanese living.
