Contact Improvisation on land | Sunset at the Temple of Poseidon

3:00 pm – 8:00 pm
On land

On the seafront, on a beautiful beach very close to the Temple of Poseidon, we will begin to explore the potential of our breath and how it can move the waters of our body, so that we can reach a state of fluid balance. A sensory experience of how we can move and dance, becoming “liquid bodies.” This balance of personal fluidity will lead to floating motions on earth and will reveal our personal form of expression and connection to the water. Through improvisational contact exercises, we will develop physical and emotional communication with one another. As our breath engages more deeply, we will begin to interact with each other, developing movements and sounds that create a very special intercommunication between us, using as examples the qualities of marine creatures, such as dolphins and whales. This will reveal endless possibilities of our floating group creativity so that we can make a smooth natural transition and dance to the sea waters.

We will walk in silence from the beach to the Temple of Poseidon (30 min). We will expand our sight with breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea, which combines with the scent of plants and the light of the Temple’s bright white marble columns.

Around, all we can see is blue. We will use our imagination to travel back in time – to see, to feel and to hear the stories these ancient waters have lived, creating our own motions and a small group performance, near beautiful rocks by the Temple, as the sun sinks into the blue waters and kisses us with its golden rainbow in our hearts.

We will create a circle in front of the Temple, where we will share our sensory and present experiences that we received in this sacred place.

Snorkeling | Contact Dance Improvisation on Water | Underwater Dance Creation

10 am – 1.30 pm
From the land to the sea

Our meeting point will be at the Athens Divers Center, located 3 minutes from Calypso Bay. We will go by boat to the Blue Canyon, the trip lasts 10 to 15 minutes.

The Blue Canyon is located on a small uninhabited island called Arsida. It is a cave without “roof”, where the sunlight enters and creates images of an indescribable beauty. Here we will have the opportunity to go snorkeling around the canyon. A small cave can be visited at a depth of 9 meters, home to large anemones and cardinal fish. The walls and floor of this canyon are covered with hard bluish and yellow corals. In the canyon we can see morays, octopuses, and lobsters. And nearby, large shoals of parrot-fish and chestnut fish, perch, sardines, rockfish and grouper. The view from inside the canyon towards the sea is breathtaking, creating a palette of colors in a beautiful blue sea.

We will have a first dance moment in the blue.
The perfect natural stage for dancing and creating underwater.

Lunch break: we recommend the hotel’s Calypso Bay bar, right on the beach front. You will have free time for a refreshing dip or sunbathing on the beach.

3 pm – 7.30 pm
At the sea (Blue Canyon)

At Calypso Bay, we will enter the sea in silence, as if entering into the womb of a loving mother. We will develop the sensation of floating on the surface and also underwater, exploring our underwater home – the Blue Canyon! It will be natural to learn to dance in the water, respecting each individual. We synchronize our breathing to “dance” in slow motion. We will expand all of our senses while in the water. Watching and listening on the water can be an incredible experience! With a special underwater microphone, the song will begin to fill the Blue Canyon and we will work in the absence of gravity, interacting with each other, creating dances in the water that would be impossible on earth. It will be one of the most beautiful experiences of your life!

About the Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounion

Cape Sounion is located on the Attica peninsula, 65 km from Athens. Here we can visit one of the best preserved temples of ancient Greece, the Temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea, built to protect the Greek seas. It has a panoramic view of the breathtaking Aegean Sea. For many, this is the most beautiful sunset in the world. The Apostolia will share with us the history and mythology of this special place.
