About.
The Nyingma Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is one of America's oldest Tibetan Buddhist centers of learning. Our mission is to share the healing wisdom of the Nyingma tradition and reveal a path of inner freedom. We offer retreats, workshops, and courses in 7 different fields of study, and are a volunteer-run organization.

Residential Program
Work-study program participants immerse themselves in a life of service, personal development, and learning that integrates work with study. Living at the Nyingma Institute in shared rooms, participants enjoy vegetarian meals and receive a full scholarship for Institute classes and workshops, along with a small living reimbursement stipend. The minimum commitment is 6 months.
Our current program for new residents is called the Mandala Training Program. The schedule for this program includes a daily morning reading which offers contemplations and work-practices, a daily evening meditation session, and a weekly evening class that introduces the fundamentals of Buddhism. Participants also have access to our evening programs, which include courses from seven fields of study. Tasks here can include: Front Desk, cleaning, maintenance, promotions, cooking, gardening, IT and more. We also share responsibility for house chores such as dish duty and cleaning shared spaces.
Participants need not be Buddhist, but should be able to respect our customs and live harmoniously in a community setting.
