Come Create Community

8th Life Panama is an ecovillage project, impact hub, maker space -- learning laboratory in creating community, building green businesses, innovating solutions for sustainable living, and sharing these innovations and learnings with the local community. In addition to creating our living spaces and the requisite water catchments, garden plots, chickens and other small animal areas, and food forests, we envision implementing initiatives such as shared workspaces for artisans and craftspeople, shared storefronts, local products, produce, crafts markets to strengthen local economies, and an eco-business incubator.

Villa Astoria, our 9-room co-working co-living space that is operated commercially to help fund the project. It's also our center of operations and our co-living space. Our 21 Ha of gorgeous land where we will be creating the ecovillage is about 10 km up the hill from Astoria. Right now the land is totally natural - bordered by a river and a seasonal stream.

It's time to transition from a destructive society to a sustainable world.

Starting locally, we need to stop the destruction, build soil, restore ecosystems, heal our addictions, change organizational and power structures, and learn to live in community. We need to move all the resources we can as quickly as possible towards the most effective solutions if we are to halt & reverse the current destructive trends, and create a new, saner economy.

If it's clear to you that supporting the transition of our destructive society to a sustainable world is your first priority, you will love this & we are looking for you!

8th Life Panama is a Collaborative Work-Life Initiative forming an Intentional Community in the mountains of Anton, Panama. Our guest house, Villa Astoria, serves as our center of operations and lodging while we develop our 21 hectare (52 acre) permaculture project on Finca Astoria, just 10Km away.

We offer you a unique opportunity to design your future in a healthy and supportive environment. Astoria Guest House provides comfortable living space while we co-create the permaculture based intentional community on our 21Ha Finca. This is a ground-floor opportunity. Are you ready to come create?

We're looking for visionaries; people with an entrepreneurial spirit who believe, like we do, that it's time to transition from a destructive society to a sustainable world.

*️Technology: Website, Positioning, Marketing*️ (Max 2 positions)

These positions are housed at Villa Astoria and require knowledge and experience in Word Press website design and maintenance, SEO, digital/online marketing including social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (and other emerging outlets). Tasks include updating and improving the website, improving and implementing marketing plans, creating/editing content, interacting on social media platforms to increase engagement and followers, troubleshooting technology issues. Ideally also includes taking photographs and videos, and administrative support (e.g., replying to emails, replying and creating engagements on social media platforms).
5 hrs per day – 5 days/week – live at the guest house, share food expense between volunteers & residents

*️Finca Projects; food forest gardens, water systems, power systems*️ (Max 4 positions)

We’re going to start planting the food forest gardens this year, work on water systems and start to look at options for generating electricity at the Finca. We’re also planning some structures like a ‘rancho’ or ‘gazebo’ type shelter for meetings and training events, swales, dams made of recycled materials, clay, rocks, etc. with spillways, ponds and irrigation channels.

We also need detailed topographical maps showing contours, vegetation, paths/trails and roads, and other features of note such as streams, springs (if any), gullies/run-off ditches, changes in elevation, etc. We expect that those working at the finca will each take primary responsibility for one area and will collaborate with one another as needed. The four main areas we see at the moment are mapping (so we can develop a comprehensive site plan), water systems/swales, etc, buildings, and electricity.

4 hrs per day, 5 days/week – live on the land in your tent (or under one of the first structures once built), share food expense among volunteers, project provides a basic allowance - includes up to 2 days per week at the guest house. Rotate time away from the finca so that there’s always someone on the land. The first project (unless we manage to build them beforehand) is to build the solar shower and compost toilet.
