Ecoaldea Huehuecoyotl was founded in 1982, but our artistic lineage goes back much longer than that, to the beatniks and surrealist artists of the first half of the century. Before deciding to settle down we traveled globally as nomads, as a loosely organized theater troop-community, bringing street performance, happenings and creative rituals to alternative gatherings, political rallies, and festivals; protesting against nuclear power, environmental degradation, and social injustice against women, indigenous people, and the poor.
