About.

We at Fungi Academy believe that symbiotic relationships with other humans and with all nature is the foundation individual and collective well-being. That’s why we empower people to make the shift for a more fulfilling and regenerative lifestyle that honors all our relations. We do this by sharing and developing the art of mushroom cultivation, community building and permaculture.

We hold weekly workshops, as well as 6-day immersive courses. Come learn to grow your own mushrooms with us; be it for food, regeneration, permaculture, or medicine.

There is much wisdom to be learned from the fungus among us. From Oysters to Psilocybe, we feel that mushroom cultivation is a potent global solution to some of the most important issues plaguing our planet today.

As a sustainable food source, a builder of healthy soil, a healer for damaged ecosystems and a powerful medicine for both body and mind, we believe that fungus is the key to a healthier, more unified world.

It is this vision of unity that serves as a model for the way we live, work, play and grow together.

Since our founding in January 2016, we have taught hundreds of locals and travelers from around the world how to grow their own mushrooms; be it for food, ecological restoration, enhancing permaculture design or consciousness exploration.

We are looking for people who are willing to fully invest in and co-create our collective reality.

Come immerse yourself in the magical world of fungi, share, co-create and make authentic connections!

Communal Living with Private Room

Minimum stay: 3 nightsMaximum capacity: 2 people
Food included
We invite you to come experience the healing power of communal living with purpose in our big house up the mountain above San Marcos.

Stay with us and bring your unique gifts to share in co-creating magic. No matter what your skills or experience may be, if you have an interest in learning, sharing, and living in a relaxed yet intentional space, you will find good times here.

We are four permanent members, with many travelers coming in and out, some staying for only a few days, others for a month or more. We divide household tasks, cook communal meals, jam around the campfire and chill out together. There is also ample space to retreat and take time for yourself, to visit the village and have fun with myriad activities around the lake. San Marcos is a healing vortex with a definite spiritual vibe, while the other towns and villages each offer a unique energy. From nature hikes to Friday night open mics, there is something to satisfy your every whim and fancy.

Our larger mission is to cultivate environmental awareness and inspire new paradigms for living in harmony, teaching about fungi and permaculture and sharing love and good vibes with both travelers and the local community. We hold weekly workshops and have started to plan larger projects for the village of San Marcos. If you feel you can get involved with this all the better, but if you just want to help out by cooking and cleaning that's ok too. If you teach yoga or any healing therapies and want to run workshops from our large communal room, this is also a possibility.

You will have your own private room away from the bustle of the main house equipped with a double bed. A dry toilet is just a few steps away. Our shower is heated by the sun, so on cloudy cold days you won't get a steamy shower, but the great WiFi connection and killer kitchen office space makes up for that. Two to three vegetarian meals a day are included, as well as coffee and medicinal teas fresh from the gardens.
