Tribal Village is a regenerative permaculture and spiritual education eco-village. We are an international family working to teach and empower local communities, volunteers, and guests with the knowledge and practices needed to ground the new paradigm on our planet. Through events, celebrations and hard work we are manifesting this vision every day. Together we are changing our world through love.

We need at the moment 3 posts:

Wake up at sunrise for a magnificent view of Lake Atitlan.

For those who are awake, the 6.00 am stunning sunrise across the lake is a perfect way to start your day. Once you’ve seen it once, you’ll probably wake up each day to catch it.

Enjoy a morning dip in the lake. (with clothes please. Our Mayan neighbors are very sensitive to nudity). A cool refreshing dip first thing in the morning is a wonderful way to wake up to the day.

Morning practice.

Welcome the morning with a group yoga or qi gong class. Or your own personal yoga practice. From 6.30 to 8.00, 5 days a week, there will be a collective class with everyone on the lake, with dedicated teachers. This is part of the package you get when you come here at tribal Village !

Communal breakfast.

In the high season, a breakfast is provided, with lots of fruits and porridge. It is served at 9.00. In the week ends, or in low season, you can cook your own breakfast in the community kitchen.

Conscious Workshops.

Around 10 AM, we often have conscious workshops depending who the cocreators staying with us at the time. For instance, Qi Gong, Acro yoga, sacred water, female empowerment, conscious leadership, sacred geometry and Thai massage are some of the recent offerings.

These workshops vary in time lasting from an hour to all day and are a separate price. Look at the Facebook events page to see more examples.

Tribal circle.

Many mornings the tribe gathers for announcements and to communicate the work that needs to be done around the community. The antler goes around the circle to allow each individual to express themselves. People make announcements for workshops and share their feelings. The community appreciation for completed volunteer tasks. The Volunteers sign up for their 3 hours of karma yoga for the day. If a person sees a job to be done, they can post it. Volunteers typically do their karma yoga from 10-1 pm 5 days a week.

Lunch time.

In High Season, 5 days a week, a lunch is prepared with love and joy and is provided in your package. It will be served around 13.00, and we will all eat together in the garden, or in the terrace of the temple. On week ends, or in low season, you can prepare your own food in the community kitchen.

Afternoon Session Bonus.

From Monday to Friday, usually from 16.30 to 18.00, we offer an afternoon Bonus session for all the guests and volunteers. It can be meditation, healing, introductions to workshops, shamanic drumming, dancing, women or men circles, or anything that is related to conscious living. We like to remain flexible and sometimes the timings are different. This is also part of the Reconnection to Self Package.

Tuk-tuk towards San Marcos.

If you want some exercise, can either climb the stairs to catch a tuk-tuk at the top of the hill for a bumpy 10-minute ride into the village. Or you can walk along the lakeshore and catch a tuk-tuk at the bottom of the hill. The tuk-tuk costs 5Q per person(10 Q if alone) and will pick up other riders on its way into San Marcos

Dinner time.

For dinner, you can prepare your own food or cooperate with other people, using the collective kitchen from 18.00 to 21.00. Each person is responsible for washing their own dishes. We ask that after 21.00 the temple gets quiet, that people can relax and rest.

Song Circle.

Musicians play guitar and drums and people can join in singing. Sometimes it’s kirtan and sometimes it’s original pieces depending on the musicians in the village at the time. every Sunday, there will be a Sacred Song Circle where all San Marcos is invited !

Sacred Fire.

After dark, we often build a fire and sing kirtan (devotional music) and other songs at the village around the fire. Sometimes hot cocoa is served. It’s wonderful to warm the feet by the fire, cuddle with your honey and sing together.

You will share dry toilets and shower in the area of your tepee, or in the temple.

You can as well bring your own tent, and gears (mattress, sleeping bag…) and we might have a free spot for you to pluck it. It depends on the moment you come of course as sometimes we are pretty full.

We require 3 hours of work, 5 days per week, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM to fulfill your volunteer missions. Some posts like Welcome Center will be more flexible as people can show up anytime. That’s why we have 2 persons for this one. Please honor this agreement and take initiative to fill your work hours. If you are not able to fulfill this expectation you will be in “guest” status, which comes with additional fees (see “Staying as a Guest”). We have meetings 3 times per week where the Volunteer Coordinator defines the missions and accompanying tasks to be completed. After the first week, we will have a meeting with you to see how you fit in the project and to accommodate your needs the best we can. If we see that your volunteer work is not matching our needs and expectations, we will give you a test period of one more week to adjust. If then we are still not satisfied, we will ask you to stay as a guest or to leave.

#Morning and afternoon sessions
You will be able to participate to all morning yoga and qi gong sessions from 6h30 to 8h00, as a participant or as a teacher if you want to build up your teaching skills. In the case you teach the morning, this hour can be deduced from your day volunteer time (1 hour less). You can attend as well the afternoon sessions from 16h30 to 18h00 for free and enjoy lectures, meditations, circles, drumming and dancing.

#Free days
You have 2 Free days per week, which are usually Saturday and Sunday. The basic maintenance and cleaning of the space where you live should still be taken care of during these rest days, so we keep a physically, energetically, mentally and spiritually clean environment.

Depending on the time of year (high season) there will be communal meals (breakfast and lunch), cooked by our chef, 5 days a week, that are included in your contribution. If there is no collective meals organized, you are responsible for providing your own food and snacks. We have communal shared kitchens. Groceries are very affordable and within walking distance.
Our kitchen is vegetarian/vegan.

#Essential Community Duties
Our task management system will let you know what tasks are to be done daily. You will be able to choose the missions you want to work on and inform the group of their progress in our weekly meetings.

#Be a Teacher and a Student
Identify which skills and knowledge you have to contribute to the community. All your skills are valuable to us. Show us your magic! Also, always be open to learn from others.

#Conditions for Attending Workshops
If you wish to attend a workshop in the Tribal Village during the Volunteer time hours (10:00 AM to 1:00 PM), you will have to inform the volunteer coordinator few days before. You will have to fulfill your volunteer missions during the part of the day where you are not in the workshop.

#If You See a Job That Should Get Done, it is Yours
We highly value self-motivated and solution-oriented mindsets. If you see a gap in any aspect, act on it as an opportunity to improve the community. See a dirty dish? Give it a wash. Dirty floor? Grab the broom and give it a sweep. Some inspiration for artwork or construction? Grab one of the core members and tell them your ideas. The smallest tasks improve the community and make happy people.

#Keeping the Community Running
The well-being and happiness of all community members is the highest priority, therefore it is very important for us that the communal daily tasks like cooking, cleaning and food runs are taken care of – only then we can focus on other projects.

#Ask For Help
If you do something for the first time and are not absolutely sure how to do it, please ask. We are always open to answer any question. Talk to the Volunteer Coordinator or a core team member if you need any advice, supervision or material.

#Team Up It is always more fun and efficient to work with a partner!
