Join us at our award-winning lodge for a 7 day all-inclusive interactive course in permaculture design and learn how to prepare the food you will grow. This class offers an introduction to permaculture where you can develop culinary skills to manage large harvests.

Program.

Step off the beaten path and immerse yourself in a fun introductory course to permaculture. Located in the jungle of Platanillo near the Pacific coast, Valley of Dreams Eco Lodge offers a 7-day, all-inclusive permaculture design workshop paired with our locally sourced whole food-plant based organic cooking classes. This class offers an introduction to permaculture, and opportunity to visit various permaculture farms in our community and develop culinary skills in preserving and fermentation to manage large harvests.


Introductory permaculture will provide you with a skill set you can take home and implement in your own garden. It will focus on ways to implement permaculture into daily life. You will learn about the role that animals play in permaculture, will learn about composting, bio-fermentation and nitrogen fixing trees and plant. We will discuss tree selection and you will learn the differences between grafted trees versus trees from seeds. We will explore seed propogation, visit permaculture farms and you will leave this course with a skill set to successfully create your own permaculture garden. The culinary pairing of the course will specialize in pickling, fermentation, making kefir and dosas. Valley of Dreams Specialized Retreats offers a farm to table approach for all guests to participate in. Foods will be sourced on-site or from local permaculture farms in the area. Guests will be provided with recipes and a permaculture design.


Morning yoga at our on-site yoga deck will be included and incredible excursions will be offered to amazing waterfalls, local permaculture farms, and a trip to the beautiful pacific ocean. Guests are also free to lounge by the salt-water pool, hike on one of the many trails throughout the 12-acre property and enjoy fires at the fire pit during the evenings. All meals will be prepared by by local amazing chefs. Certificates of completion will be provided to all participants who successfully complete the course.


Accommodations

Guests will each have their own private room equipped with a matrimonial bed, small closet, desk, end tables and lamps. Each private room is located in a shared two-bedroom cabin with a small living room, dining area, kitchenette and shower with instant hot-water. Guests will have full access to the main salon, fully equipped with sofa's a full kitchen, dining area as well as use the salt-water pool, fire pit, yoga deck, and enjoy one of our many trails throughout the jungle.


Cost: $2300.00 per person (13%VAT tax included)*(Airfare not included). Airport transfers must be arranged at least 2 weeks before your arrival and will be offered only March 16, 2020 between the hours of 11:00-3:00 pm. Please make sure that you arrange your flight plans accordingly. Airport transport for departures will leave at 7:00 am March 22, 2020. If you are planning on getting here on your own or would like to rent a car, we can assist!

Our Dream Team

Daniel Kay, Permaculture Specialist

Dan has been working in Permaculture since he arrived in Costa Rica in 2015. His Journey started at Rancho Mastatal Sustainability Education Center where he and his wife Jessica were apprentices for 1 year. There he immersed himself in Permaculture design, caring for fruit trees, assessing land, organic farming and much more. He developed a passion for being connected to the land and the journey continued. Dan, Jessica and their 1.5 year old son Tyson now own a farm in Tinamaste, Costa Rica where they have planted a 1 acre food forest with over 1500 plants, trees and pollinators!

Dan runs an Organic Agriculture (Permaculture design), Property Development and Construction business in Tinamaste, Costa Rica, right up the street from Valley of The Dreams. 


Jessica Kay, Yoga Specialist and Massage Therapist

Jessica has been practicing sustainable living principles in the tropics since 2015 where she and her husband spent a year living as full time apprentices at Rancho Mastatal, Sustainability Education Center in Costa Rica. Here she found a passion in working with living food and learning the art of fermentation using the organic food grown on the permaculture farm. The principles of permaculture are now a part of her daily life and she is looking forward to teaching you how you can incorporate these practice into your life at home. She also has a passion for helping people feel good and relax by leading students through therapeutic yoga classes. Jessica incorporates aromatherapy and gentle adjustments to your yoga flow that leaves you feeling brand new and ready for the day! Healing massage therapy will be offered following yoga classes for anyone who is interested.


Laura Schway, Chef

Laura Schway has been working in the culinary industry for over 2 decades and is the owner of the popular restaurant, Urban Cafe in Costa Rica.Laura works closely with local organic farms in the community and sources the freshest of ingredients. She and her brother, Jose have created and incredibly popular hot sauces that are sold all throughout Costa Rica. Laura focuses on creating healthy and purposeful meals. She is able to cater to a wide variety of dietary needs.


Matt and Annie Spackman, Valley of Dreams Owners 

 Matt and Annie first imagined the idea of Valley of Dreams Eco Lodge after honeymooning in Belize in 2005. The dream wouldn't become a reality until twelve years later but their life-changing experience in Belize gave Matt a new-found clarity that a value-based, simple, healthy way of life was possible. For forteen years, Matt and Annie never let go of that dream and would make small strides to see it to fruitition.

What they created was an eco-friendly award winning Eco Lodge located in the mountains of Costa Rica.Spackman's have a great reverance for life and Valley of Dreams is a no-feed sanctuary for many animals including howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, ocelots, sloths, anteaters, coatimundi, toucans, armadillos and many other animals.

We have a private double deluxe bedroom off of the main salon with a large bathroom with an instant hot-water shower. The room has end tables, a ceiling fan, towels, small desk and closet. You will have full access to hiking trails, communal salon with full kitchen/ living room and dining area, fire pit, salt-water pool and yoga deck.

Getting here.

Here are the directions from the coastal highway route 34. Take route 34 towards Dominical. Prior to arriving in the town of Dominical, make a left on route 243 headed towards San Isidro and follow for approximately 12 km, about 15-20 minutes. You will go past the signs for Nuayaca Waterfall. Prior to arriving in the town of Platanillo, you will see two bus stops on the left and the right and a gravel road next to a mechanics shop with old buses. Make a left on this gravel road (Calle de San Juan de Dios) and follow for approximately 3 km. You will go past Cacao Ridge Road (wooden sign on the left) for approximately 700 meters and we are the first house on the left. We have a lot of grass in the front yard, you will see the pool, a painting of a blue baruca mask on the main building and a with a red roof. Please park anywhere. We have signs on the road for you but please feel free to contact us via whats' app if you need additional assistance.
