Our communal kitchen is also available for your use, and less than a mile away is a variety of great restaurants.

Interaction with Guests:
We are a tropical permaculture farm and retreat center, so there will be various people (staff, interns, outside community members visiting for permaculture, yoga or hula classes) on property. Though, due to the large amount of land that we have, you can be as private or social as you'd like.

The Neighborhood:
We are located on a 44-acre tropical farm sanctuary on ancient Hawaiian lands in the Puna District, one of the last undeveloped magical coastal regions on the Big Island of Hawaii. The farm is on the windward side, 20 miles Southeast of Hilo - a culturally diverse university town - and less than 1 mile from Pahoa (easy to bike or walk) - a historic town with excellent restaurants, grocery and health food stores, post office and library. Our guests love how close we are to town and how it can feel like we are worlds away from the modern world, yet a gourmet dinner in town can be quick and easy.

This district is known across the globe for its cultural richness and uniqueness. We are mere miles away from an active volcano, of which you can go on lava hikes to see real flowing lava when the flow is good. We are a short distance to warm tidal pools, waterfalls, clothing-optional black sand beaches, natural steam vent saunas from the nearby active volcano, surfing, swimming with dolphins, and lots of sweet community events– farmer's markets, ecstatic dances and culture.

Getting Around:
There is a public bus system but it isn't the most convenient. Your best bet is to rent a car. Hitchhiking is very easy around here for those that are experienced and comfortable with the adventures that hitchhiking brings. We are walking distance to Pahoa town, and just a half hour by car from Hilo airport (ITO).

Other Things to Note:
Hawaiian Sanctuary is a tropical permaculture farm and eco-rejuvenation center. We provide experiential education in the areas of yoga/wellness, permaculture, Hawaiian Culture, social dynamics/communication, and much more!

We bring local experts to teach us about returning to the land, growing our food and re-connecting to ourselves, each other, and the earth. There are both paid and complimentary class options available to our guests.

Let us provide you with innovative eco-chic accommodations, a health spa, prepared meals from our gardens, family style classes on wellness, permaculture classes, and more.

Relax in style with us. This vacation will deliver community style living with a private retreat experience. Nestle in our sanctuary close to town, yet worlds away from life as you know it!

* Please note this room is located adjacent to the space where there are often dances and concerts on weekends that may not conclude until midnight and can be loud. Please inquire at time of booking whether an event will occur (if this may be of concern) at time of booking.
