MEMANTA is a small, familiar conservation center on one of the least-developed beaches in Northern Nicaragua. We offer volunteer involvement programs that are educational, rewarding and impactful. Our main focus is our sea turtle hatchery project which runs from June through January. Besides this, we engage in other meaningful projects like clean-ups, reforestation, gardening, ecosystem management, water & waste treatment etc.
Volunteers live sustainably amid our native beachfront forest and experience the beauty of nature day by day. Part of our property doesn't count with electricity while the other part does - so you have the best from both worlds in reach! At MEMANTA, you'll pull up your water from an artisanal well, water plants while showering and create compost by sitting the toilet. All this while listening to the birds, the critters, the wind and the waves!
Volunteers help us with daily chores, time-intensive work projects and research, while they can enjoy a daily activity program with workshops, fun trips, DIY crafts, cooking and language classes... Also, you can spend your free time with outdoor activities such as surfing, horseback riding, boat riding, hiking, cycling and getting to know the picturesque surrounding village where you'll meet school kids, fishermen and farmers.
--> If you want to work with sea turtles, you should come between July and December!
This offer covers room and board:
You sleep in a comfortable bed in a rustic cabin that you share with other volunteers (max. occupancy: 4 persons). The shower and the toilet are just a few steps away.
You have access to our community space and the communal kitchen. Volunteers prepare their own breakfast and lunch, and receive a local-style dinner. (We also offer vegan and vegetarian food!). Drinking water and juice are available 24/7.
Certain activities such as educational workshops, spanish classes, crafts, games and mini adventure trips are included in the price.
