About.

VerdEnergia Pacifica is a diverse permaculture community and reforestation project in the mountains of Lanas de Puriscal, Costa Rica.

Since 2006, we have been regenerating destroyed cattle land into a thriving food forest  in one of the most deforested areas in the country. We experiment with ideas and practices that serve our land base and communities while working to withdraw legitimacy from the unsustainable structures and habits of our cultures. We aim to transform today’s convergence of global crises into opportunities to unite, educate, and co-create a more conscious, just, and abundant way of life for ourselves and generations to come.

We ask that you send a resume, two references, and be willing to do a short phone interview before the start of your stay.

***This booking is for those who'd like to stay for at least 6 months***

If you are interested in experiencing permaculture in action, living in community, and engaging with sustainability projects in a hands-on and dynamic environment, this is the opportunity for you!

The growing season is a time of quiet abundance. Expect sunny mornings with many rainy afternoons, tree planting, garden nurturing, food processing (including fermentation), green building, and harvesting our year’s work.

Communal living is integral to our daily operations. Participants should be comfortable living and working in a community setting as well as contributing to community upkeep. As a community, we wake up together, eat meals together, take turns cooking for each other, and share in the responsibilities of keeping daily operations running smoothly. Each member of farm staff has a different job and responsibilities, but we all do our best to work together as a cohesive group.

Participation is experiential education; you are learning about permaculture and community by living in it. The most helpful, effective, and happy participants are self-motivated, interested, responsible, and accountable.

Participants are expected to be ready to work from 6 am - 12:30 pm, 5 days a week, as well as fulfill meal and cleaning shifts (sometimes during time off).

Your cost of living payment includes:
- Three square (mostly vegetarian) meals a day, 7 days a week
- Lodging (shared dormitories)
- Use of the facilities (swimming pool, dance/yoga studio, community library)
