CATIE - The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center - is an international entity with a unique combination of science, graduate education and innovation for development, has its bases well-grounded and a clear action plan for creating professionals with a distinct perspective who can also contribute to the sustainable growth of the communities.
Finca Cabiria is CATIE's germoplasm center, and includes a seed bank with over 7000 varieties including one of the world's best collection of coffee, cacao, and squash. It also includes an exotic fruit tree nursery, an agroforestry nursery, and a botanical garden for visitors.
CATIE is financed by a number of Latin American governments, and its genetic library is a heritage to humanity.
