Long Way Home is green-building the Hero School campus and looking for volunteers to support our efforts.

We have a volunteer program that runs year-round and offers courses and workshops in green construction. Our school is an 18+ building campus using various natural, green and earthship-inspired techniques. The campus features solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, dry composting toilets, superadobe, rammed-earth tire structures, and more!

So far we have repurposed over 20,000 tires and 450 tons of inorganic trash in construction. The school serves 154 local students (PreK-11th grade) and employs 30+ local school and construction staff. The curriculum is project-based and equips students to carry out critical development projects in their community. They build smoke-efficient stoves, water tanks, and compost latrines. During our one-month-long Green Building Academy for international students, we build entire tire homes.
